Job Title: Paralegal
Date: 7/29/19
Status: Full-time, nonexempt
Salary Grade or Range:  Dependent upon qualifications and experience
Reports to: Lead attorney

 

Position Summary

Under the direction of the lead attorney, the paralegal position researches law, investigates facts, and prepares documents to assist the attorney by performing a variety of legal support duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes
  • Prepares legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, contracts, initial and amended articles of incorporation, deeds, and trust instruments for review, approval, and use by attorney
  • Investigates facts and law of case to determine causes of action and to prepare case accordingly
  • Performs other secretarial duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, taking dictation, composing and typing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail
  • Prepares affidavits of documents and maintains document file
  • Files correspondence and legal documents in office filing system
  • Ensures proper indexing and filing of original legal documents
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality

 

Qualifications

  • Outstanding time-management and typing skills
  • Being comfortable dealing with a diverse pool of people
  • Familiarity with legal documents and terminology
  • Detail oriented
  • Problem Solving/Analysis
  • Able to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work as a team with attorneys and all support staff
  • Strong sense of discretion
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality

 
Computer Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities

  • Working knowledge of litigation management software systems is a plus
  • Proficiency with e-filing
  • Proficiency in grammar and spelling
  • Proficiency with MS Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Typing speed of at least 50 wpm with a high rate of accuracy
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat


Required Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree or 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Paralegal certification


Physical and Environmental Consideration

  • This is an indoor office environment and may require sitting and utilizing a computer for extended periods of time
  • May be required to move items up to 20 pounds
  • Overtime may be required to complete certain projects and meet deadlines
